Tanjung Beach on a Saturday Afternoon

Sentosa Front

I took this shot as I was leaving Sentosa on Saturday.

I was over at Tanjung Beach in the afternoon for a picnic with the kids from Queenstown and the other mentors. It was good weather with the sun out and the sea breeze blowing. We were also quite fortunate to find a spot under one of the shelters at the beach.

It was our final activity before their N-levels and sort of a farewell event too as the mentors will soon be moving on to new Sec 2 kids. Our mentorship cycle began 1 ½ years ago and its amazing how we are still together. We, the mentors, aren’t really the most interesting people around and the generation gap makes it even harder to get into their world. But we still find them coming back to participate in our hastily organized activities in spite of the activities being totally on a volunteer basis. Maybe the kids just needed some attention and some open-mindedness that adults sometimes find hard to provide.

Well, we had a good time under the sweltering heat as the sandwiches and drinks flowed while we played games on the beach. Around us, beach folks were enjoying their game of beach volleyball, sun worshipers were having their own private(or public) sun tanning sessions, and the occasional bikini clad girls with their dogs were attracting lots of stolen glances.
